Microbiological Stability – EPSAN® C
According to the European Regulation 1223/2009, the evaluation of microbiological stability of a cosmetic product has to be done according to the ISO model (International Organization Standardization) applying the ISO method 11930:2012.
This model is used for an overall evaluation of the antimicrobial protective action of a cosmetic product, which comprises:
– chemical features of the preserving system;
– formulation features;
– packaging design;
– factory process.
Attachment 1 from the Regulation (CE) n. 1223/2009 reports how cosmetic products security needs to be proved through data on the quantitative and qualitative composition of the products to be tested, the physical and chemical features, the stability of the product and the microbiology quality. In particular, “special attention should be directed to cosmetic products to be used on the periocular region, on mucosae in general, on damaged skin, on children under the age of three and on elderly and other people with a poor immunological status”.
