DISCUSSION

Our study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of a cream containing 2% of PRO YOUTH®. In this study we used a short term test and a long-term test to evaluate the effectiveness of moisturizing, elasticizing and tolerability using a combination of non-invasive techniques and clinics. The short term test is important, in the efficacy studies, because has a high discriminating power as it is possible to achieve an improvement of the skin properties after a single application (Belo 2006). On the other hand, long-term studies are important for evaluating the real effects, on the superficial layers of the skin, determined by the functional principles present in the product (Prall 1986, Berardesca 1997). In both types of tests, it is advisable to work with a sample of middle-aged volunteers in which the epidermis has more alterations. For these reasons, we carried out experiments on a group of middle-aged volunteers. The interpretation of the results revealed that following the use of the two products, there are significant increases in hydration, a significant reduction in T EWL is an improvement of some parameters of elasticity.

The cutaneous hydration shows an average increase of 23% after 1 hour of application in the short test, 21% after 15 days and 27% after 30 in the long test. TEWL is statistically reduced by 11% after 30 days of use of the two products. The skin elasticity shows an improvement of the parameters R6 and R7, in the long term test. R6 is reduced after 30 days; R7 always increases after 30 days of daily application of the product. The consumer test has shown the presence of a subjective improvement (between enough and a lot) of cutaneous elasticity for 60% and roughness for 55% of the sample submitted In conclusion, this study highlighted an objective efficacy in improving hydration, TEWL and skin elasticity after using a cream containing 2% of PRO YOUTH®. This data should be confirmed by a further study carried out on a larger statistical sample and vs placebo or negative control.
