EXPRESSION OF RESULTS
The result is expressed as IC50 of the following formula:
% cell viability: (Treated Cells OD/non treated cells OD) x 100
OD = optical density
RESULTS INTERPRETATION
The cytotoxicity data obtained with the NRU assay were according the theoretical IC50 value (Inhibiting Concentration 50), i.e. the concentration of test compound which induce a decrease of cell survival by 50% as compared to untreated cultures.
The IC50 value, shown in table, indicates the concentration of product required to inhibit cell growth by 50%.
IC50 is a parameter for assessing the irritation potential of a compound, in the following: IC50 <0.5 indicates a strong cytotoxic / irritating effect.
IC50 between 0.5 and 1.5 indicates a moderate cytotoxic / irritating effect.
IC50> 1.5 indicates the absence of cytotoxic / irritating.
